What Is a PAC File?
A Proxy Auto-Configuration (PAC) file is a JavaScript-based tool that helps web browsers determine the correct proxy server for a specific URL. These files are commonly hosted on a network, and can be set up manually or managed via Windows Group Policy.
Does Silo Support PAC Files?
Silo supports the implementation of PAC files, and will utilize the instructions provided within the PAC file to connect through the appropriate web proxy server.
Configuring a PAC File in Windows:
- From the Start Menu, navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy
- Under the Automatic proxy setup section, toggle Use setup script to On
- Configure the Script address by pasting the PAC file URL then click Save

How Does Silo Use PAC Files?
Silo utilizes the PAC file to manage its connection through two stages:
- Connecting to the Launch Server
- The PAC file ensures that the initial connection to Silo’s launch server is routed through the appropriate web proxy server for secure communication.
- Connecting to the Application Server
- Once the session begins, Silo connects to the application server, where the secure browsing environment is hosted.
