Introduction

Silo is an on-demand, remote, disposable browsing environment which executes browser code without taxing or exposing local resources.  Authentic8 Cloud Secure Storage extends the feature set of Silo by allowing users to store data either temporarily or permanently in Authentic8 Cloud Secure Storage.  This data can either be for personal use or the data store can be set up as a collaboration space where many users can share the same files in a variety of ways.


In addition, Authentic8 Cloud Secure Storage, users can interact with a common storage layer from either Silo or Toolbox (Authentic8 Cloud Secure Storage).  With the various viewers built into Silo and Toolbox, it is now possible to view documents and view and listen to multimedia files using the storage containers.


Technical Details

Both Silo and Toolbox contain native support for rendering of certain file types. This permits the end user to view or listen to these files without the need to download to their local desktop. The end user will need to download these files to the Secure Cloud Storage and then double-click the files from there to render the document (see below for an example).  There are two types of files which are supported: Productivity Documents and Multimedia Files. Here is a list of those file types and the specific formats which we support:


  • Productivity Documents:
  • Word
  • Powerpoint
  • Excel
  • Text/HTML
  • PDF
  • MP4


Example Open a Supported File Scenario

A user receives an email attachment in an Office document format.  The user decides to view this document in Silo. 


Steps

 

1. First, the user downloads the file to Temporary Storage. 



2.  After pressing save, the Authentic8 Secure Cloud Storage window appears.  The user selects the Temporary Storage item and presses "Save":


3.  The user presses the "cloud icon" on the toolbar followed by the blue "Silo Drive" button.








4.  Then, the user sees the file in the Temporary Storage container. The user double clicks the file and the file opens.


     

                      



Additional Notes

Some mail clients and applications have their own built-in viewers and rendering engines.  In these cases you generally have the option to view the file in the application rendering engine or download the file and view it using Silo's viewers.
