During a recent Security Audit, we discovered some security risks pertaining to the open-source Firebug web browser extension. Firebug is a legacy web browser utility, which was deprecated back in October 2017 in favor of the native Mozilla Developer Tools; it was last updated in February 2017. Because of this, we will be removing our implementation of the deprecated Firebug code within the Silo for Research (Toolbox) environment effective August 18, 2020.
The workaround for Firebug is the built-in Developer Tools, which has equivalent functionality for website inspection or debugging. You can access these tools from the Toolbox menu.
We apologize for the short notice, but we will be deploying this security change on a high-priority basis, given its critical nature.
