Introduction

The Silo secure browser platform includes access to Cloud Secure Storage, giving end-users a safe, isolated space to store and share files. It helps maintain protection for sensitive data, and works seamlessly with Authentic8's secure browser environment

Technical Details

There are three types of Cloud Secure Storage available to customers depending on the customer's subscription level, as well as, the Storage policies defined by the respective Silo Administrator(s)

Key Features and Benefits

  • Secure File Storage: Files are encrypted both in transit and at rest, ensuring data protection against unauthorized access
  • Isolated Environment: Cloud Secure Storage operates within Silo’s isolated browser environment, minimizing the risk of data leakage
  • File Sharing Controls: Administrators can manage access permissions, ensuring that files are shared only with authorized end-users
  • Audit Logging: Detailed logs are maintained to track file activity, enabling compliance with organizational policies
  • Enhanced Security: Data is safeguarded with enterprise-grade encryption
  • Controlled Access: Organizations retain full control over who can access and manage stored files
  • Compliance Support: Built-in logging features help meet regulatory and auditing requirements
  • Integrated Workflow: Cloud Secure Storage integrates seamlessly with Silo, enhancing productivity without compromising security

Per User Storage

Per-user storage is designed for individual use, and isn’t shared with other end-users within a Silo org structure. Administrators can set the storage limit for each end-user at the organization level, ensuring every end-user in the organization has access to the allocated storage. End-users can easily manage and access their storage through either Silo or Toolbox, providing flexibility and convenience

Pooled Storage (Shared Cloud Drive)

Pooled storage is designed for shared use among a group of end-users. It enable Silo Administrators to configure a storage space that can be assigned to various groups. Pooled storage can be customized with specific read/write permissions, and data retention settings to meet your organization's needs

Temporary Storage

Temporary storage provides a temporary drive that exists only for the duration of a secure browser session. Any data saved to Temporary Storage is accessible across browser sessions between Silo and Toolbox, but gets automatically deleted at the end of every browser session

This feature is enabled by default but can be disabled by a Silo Administrator if needed

Configuration

Primary configuration of the Cloud Storage policy is available in the Silo Admin Console > Policies > Encrypted Cloud Storage section.

ImportantPer User Storage and Pooled Storage are not available by default. Please contact your Account Manager to inquire about this option. Temporary Storage is enabled for all accounts by default. Silo Administrators have the ability to disable Temporary Storage as needed

Per User Storage

To configure options for Per User Storage, click the Edit button in the Per User Storage policy

Set the policy to Enable Per User Storage and set the number of GB per user in the respective org.

In the screenshot above, all end-users within the applicable org will receive a personal storage limit of 10GB. This storage is permanent and will persist across browser sessions. You may also choose to allow Silo Administrators for respective sub-orgs to override these settings

Pooled Storage

Pooled Storage configuration is a multi-step process

1.Define the size of the storage pool for your organization
2.Create storage space(s) from the pool
3.Provision storage spaces to orgs
4.Provision storage spaces to end-users

5. Click the Edit button in the Pooled Storage section

Important: Assigning a Storage Pool can only be done at the customer's parent (top) org level. An error will occur if a change to the Storage Pool size is attempted at the sub-org level

    6.  Click Save

In the screenshot above, Pooled Storage has been enabled and the size of the pool has been defined as 100GB.  If you have already allocated pooled storage to storage spaces, then the blue bar will help indicate the remaining available storage

Important: Please be aware that once a Pooled Storage size is set, the value cannot be decreased, only increased.

Create storage space(s) from the Storage Pool

Storage spaces can be created at any level within the org hierarchy. Silo Administrators with sufficient permissions can also create storage spaces at their designated org or sub-org level

To allocate storage spaces and to assign those spaces to end-users, navigate to the Web Apps > Storage Spaces section in the Silo Admin Console

Expand the Storage Spaces menu, and click Add towards the bottom left hand section to setup a new storage space.

Provide a Name for the storage space, along with Capacity (must be less than the amount of your total available storage pool), and Data Retention Period. If the data retention period is set to anything other than Forever, then the data will be deleted based on the time interval set

Click Save to continue

Provision storage spaces to orgs (multiple end-users)

Navigate to the org level you wish to assign a storage space, and navigate to that org using the org picker in the upper-right hand corner of Silo.   and configure options:

More Info: You may configure Access Rights in this section. Click Save once the pooled storage configuration is complete. End-users belonging to the respective org will have access to the storage space listed under Shared Silo Drives

Provision storage spaces to an end-user

Select an end-user you would like to add storage to in the Users panel and double-click that user

1.  In the Account Shortcuts section, click + to open the Add App dialog

2.  Select the desired storage space in the left hand panel, then set the access rights and click Save

This end-user will see this storage space listed under their Shared Silo Drives. Note that provisioning a space to an end-user doesn’t make access exclusive to them. The same space can be provisioned to other individuals, or at the org level to a group of end-users

Temporary Storage

Data in the Temporary Storage container is purged at the end of every Silo session.

Please note that Temporary Storage is the only storage option available to Individual Customer accounts, while Enterprise customers have the option to disable Temporary Storage as needed

To disable Temporary Storage, navigate to the Silo Admin Console > Policies > Encrypted Cloud Storage > Temporary Storage > Edit

Select Disable Temporary Storage followed by Save -- the change will take effect after starting a new Silo session
