Characteristics of the Installed Client

This FAQ discusses the differences between Web Client and Installed Client keyboard functionality.

Native IME Compatibility

The installed client is compatible with native operating system IMEs. Users can find instructions on how to set up their native IME compatibility through the link provided under ‘More Information’ at the end of this document.

 Virtual Keyboard Functionality

Full virtual keyboard functionality is available in the installed client. You may use the virtual keyboard to switch physical keyboard input (i.e. remapping the keyboard) and use the on-screen keyboard to type in different languages.

Languages such as Mandarin and Korean are not offered through the virtual on-screen keyboard settings. If you see a language that is not there and would like to see it supported, please email support@authentic8.com.

Physical Foreign Keyboard Compatibility

Support for physical foreign keyboards is fully supported. If you are having issues with a specific physical foreign keyboard, please email support@authentic8.com.

Characteristics of the Web Client

 Native IME Compatibility

The web client is NOT compatible with native operating system IMEs because of the technical limitations of the web client.

Virtual Keyboard Functionality

Full virtual keyboard functionality is available in the web client. Users can fully use the virtual keyboard to switch their physical keyboard input (i.e. remapping the keyboard) and use the on-screen keyboard to type in different languages.

Languages such as Mandarin and Korean are not offered through the virtual on-screen keyboard settings. If you see a language that is not there and would like to see it supported, please email support@authentic8.com.

Physical Foreign Keyboard Compatibility

We recommend changing the virtual keyboard settings to match the physical keyboard used.

Please refer to the screenshot below for an example of how to change the virtual keyboard settings. Making a language change here will remap a user’s keyboard settings.

Summary of Functional and Capability Differences

The installed client provides a more robust support for physical foreign keyboards and support for native IMEs. The web client requires a user to change the virtual keyboard settings to allow for the functionality of physical foreign keyboards and does not support native IMEs. Both the web client and the installed client allow for the full functionality of the virtual keyboard.
